Menorca Football update for the 2025/26 season

For the 2025/26 season, Menorca has just one representative in the national league system.
CE Mercadal continue to be the top ranked side on the island, playing in RFEF Tercera Division (the fifth tier) for the fifth successive season.
They play in Group 11, which is made up of sides from across the Balearic Islands.
Mercadal have made a decent start to the new season, winning three and drawing one of five games so far, that puts them in the top five.
They have been very much a mid-table dweller in the past four seasons, finishing 13th, 9th, 10th and 12th, and never really threatening to reach the promotion play-offs, in which they last played back in 2014/15.
Back then, Tercera Division was the fourth tier, although the addition of the RFEF Primera Division at tier three, meant Tercera became the fifth tier after the re-named RFEF Segunda Division.
In the past couple of seasons, they have had Menorcan company in the division from CD Migjorn and CE Alaior, though that is no longer the case, and they fly the Menorca flag solely.
As a result, all the other Menorcan clubs find themselves in the Menorca League of Honor Division (previously Regional Preferente Menorca).
The new Menorcan League season doesn’t get underway until November, with instead the season getting underway in traditional fashion with the Menorca Cup.
That involves the 11 teams on the island divided in to two groups, playing each team in their group once.
In Group A plays Atletico Villacarlos, CE Ferreries, CD Menorca, CF Norteno, Penya Ciutadella and Sporting Mahon.
In Group B are CE Alaior, CE Ciutadella, UD Mahon, CD Migjorn and CCE Sant Lluis.
The top two from each group go in to the semi-finals, and then on to the final.
In 2024/25, Sporting Mahon were the winners of the cup, beating CE Alaior on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
Sporting Mahon went on to complete a league and cup double, finishing two points clear of Alaior and CD Menorca.
Both Sporting Mahon and CE Ferreries unfortunately fell short in the promotion play-offs, leaving Mercadal as the sole representative in the national leagues.
We wait to see what chance there is of a team from Menorca earning promotion to Tercera Division at the end of this season.
Editor’s note
Over the past 18 months, the website has been very quiet in terms of content. Hopefully I will find time to correct that shortly, and be more active on social media.
I am aware that the results/fixture pages need updating to include the 2024/25 and 2025/26 seasons, and probably now the website itself needs a refresh and a more modern look. Bear with me.
