With five rounds to go in the Menorca championship, five clubs are battling out for the promotion play-off spot.

After surging up the table in recent weeks, UD Mahon suffered a costly 2-1 defeat against city rivals Sporting Mahon to lose ground on those around them.

CD Menorca have won six and drawn one of their last eight games to put themselves in contention, and their latest win – 1-0 at CD Migjorn – took down one of the clubs they are chasing and brought them level with UD Mahon.

That win for C Menorca also handed the title to CE Mercadal, who were 4-0 winners away at Atletic Ciutadella, their 16th win of the season.

Dropped points for CE Alaior at the weekend enabled UE Sami to move up to second, thanks to a 5-2 win over Penya Ciutadella.

So with five games to play, the standings are:

  • CE Mercadal 48 points (one game in hand)
