Menorca could have three teams in Tercera Division next season after champions CE Alaior secured promotion.

After finishing top of the table, Alaior secured their elevation with a 2-0 away win at Mallorcan side Felanitx.

Sergio Pons and Biel Moll scored the goals to fire the black and whites to promotion and a return to the Tercera Division for the first time since 2011/12.

Next season will be the first time since 2016/17 that Menorca has had more than one team in Tercera Division – when Penya Ciutadella played alongside Mercadal.

Mercadal have been Menorca’s sole representative since, and even they had a two season absence when Menorca had no times in the national divisions for the first time.

There is still a chance of a third Menorcan team playing in Tercera Division next season after CE Ferreries secured their place in the promotion phase.

They are the sole Menorcan representative in the 10 team promotion play-off, where each team will play each other once.

CE Ferreries secured their place by beating CD Migjorn on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

Ferreries had previously beaten UD Mahon 1-0 after extra time in the semi-finals, with Migjorn beating Atletico Villacarlos in the same circumstances.

Ferreries finished second in the league, two points behind Alaior.

The final promotion phase is a tall order for Ferreries – with only the champion of the nine-round competition earning promotion.

Promotion would be the perfect way for the club, founded in 1923, to celebrate its centenary.
