Ciutadella-born midfielder Andreu Hernandez has signed for Catalan club UE Cornella.

Hernandez, 24, played in Segunda Division B with Penya Deportiva last season and following the restructure of the Spanish football pyramid, that level is now known as Primera Division RFEF.

He has previously played for Real Mallorca B and Levante.

This is an especially intriguing move for me, as back in 2019, my first ever live game of domestic Spanish football was a UE Cornella home game against Teruel.

Several other Menorcan players are on the move following the end of the season.

Pedro Capo is departing CE Sabadell after four seasons. He was part of their promotion-winning team in 2019/20, but they suffered relegation last season.

He visited Menorca recently to present a shirt from his club to the Menorca Football History Association (AHFM).

Two former Atletico Villacarlos youth team members have secured moves within the national system.

Es Castell defender Zak Gelabert, 20, will now move on to Molinar, while Mao midfielder Simon Vidal, also 20, will join Murense. Both played for Santa Catalina in Tercera Division last season.

Exciting young winger Andreu Segui, 17, will remain in the Youth Honor Division after joining Atletico Baleares, having left Atletico Villacarlos following their relegation.

The local press called him “one of the revelations of the championship last season” despite the Menorcans finishing bottom of the table.

Baleares are based on Majorca and are coached by Alex Casas.

Another player from Mahon, Adria Mercadal, has signed for Diocesan Caceres from the Extremadura group of Tercera Division.

The former CD Menorca and Atletico Villacarlos youngster has played in the category for Alcudia and Santanyi before.
