CE Alaior, CE Ferreries, UD Mahon and Sporting Mahon will battle it out in the Menorca section of the Balearics Cup later this month.

The top four highest ranked teams from last season that remain outside RFEF Tercera will go head-to-head in a straight knock-out format.

CE Ferreries will take on CE Alaior on Friday August 21 (8pm kick-off), with UD Mahon taking on Sporting Mahon on Saturday August 22 (7.45pm) in the semi-finals.

If drawn, games will be decided by a penalty shootout. The two semi-final winners will meet in a final at the highest ranked team the following weekend.
The winner of that match will then go in to the Balearic Final Four, to fight to earn a place in the Copa del Rey.

The final hour will consist of two representatives from Mallorca, the Menorca winner and CF Sant Rafel, who have already qualified as the representative of Ibiza and Formentera.

The winner will then proceed in to the preliminary round of the Copa del Rey.

It has been 17 years since a team from Menorca last competed in the Copa del Rey – Sporting Mahones were knocked out in the first round back in 2009/10.

Only five Menorcan clubs have ever competed in the competition – UD Mahon, CD Menorca, Atletic Ciutadella, CE Alaior and Sporting Mahones.

It is 35 years since a team other than Sporting Mahones competed, and that was CE Alaior in 1991/92.

Coming to Menorca and staying in Ciutadella from 28th August to 4 September. I was hoping to take in a CE Ciutadella match but looks like the season won’t have started. Any other options, preferably with reasonable bus links as I don’t intend to hire a car. TIA

Hi Iain, there will be a match between the winners of the two semi-finals taking place this weekend. Ferreries v Alaior, UD Mahon v Sporting Mahon. If it ends up being in Ferreries, that’s closer to Ciutadella. Depending on where you’re starting from, you should be able to get a bus there. The Ferreries ground is right off the main road. I will let you know if Ciutadella have any friendlies that weekend if I find out, I’m sure they will do.
