More of the same on matchday 12
It was a familiar story on the 12th day of the Menorca league season as runaway leaders CE Mercadal won yet again.
The league’s top scorer Guillem Marti posted his 16th goal of the season after Elliot Galan had given the hosts the lead, and they held on to beat CE Alaior 2-1, despite Ramon Huescar – Marti’s closest rival for the golden boot – pulling one back from the penalty spot.
CD Migjorn are 10 points behind Mercadal in second, after registering a 2-1 win over Sporting Mahon. Kevin Grajales gave them the lead, only for Macode Samb to equalise almost immediately. Kevin’s second goal earned the hosts the three points.
UE Sami are third after they held on to beat CE Ferreries 2-1. Ignasi Cortes’ brace had given them a two goal advantage, and Angel Pulido’s 89th minute strike proved too little too late for the visitors.
CD Menorca registered one of the biggest wins of the season as they thrashed Penya Ciutadella 7-1. They already led 2-0 before Anthony Castro was sent off for Penya, who despite their numerical disadvantage pulled one back through Marc Anglada.
Penya’s woe was compounded when their goalkeeper Ignasi Roman went off injured at the start of the second half, and without a replacement on the bench, an outfield player had to go in goal. Iker Echeverria (2), Marc Rovellada (2) and Aleix Ensenat were the other scorers.
The bottom two shared the spoils in Ciutadella, as Atletic picked up only their second point of the campaign in a 1-1 draw against Atletico Villacarlos. Ricki Gerez gave troubled Villacarlos, who saw youth coach Joan Melia depart this week, the lead, only for Josep Torres to equalise in the final quarter.
