Sporting Mahon and CD Menorca will compete in the Illes Balears Cup, a new competition created by the FFIB.

Featuring clubs from Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza/Formentera, the winner of the tournament will earn a place in the Copa del Rey for the 2024/25 season.

With CD Migjorn earning promotion to Tercera Division, the two best teams in Menorca not promoted have been chosen to do battle against their equivalents from Ibiza, Luchador and Inter Ibiza.

The two winners of the games will meet in a match to determine who will go through to the final of the Illes Balears Cup on September 8.

In the final, they will go up against a Mallorcan team, which will be decided by their qualifying games that are currently ongoing.

Palmanyola have already won through the qualifying round featuring the champion teams of the Mallorcan Second Regional Division.

From the First Regional Division, Consell and La Union will face each other this weekend to determine progress to the final phase.

There they will join the two best teams from the Regional Preferente Mallorca who have not been promoted. The two winners of the ties will then face each other to determine who plays the Menorca/Ibiza route winners.

The date of the game between Sporting Mahon and CD Menorca is yet to be confirmed.

No team from Menorca has competed in the Copa del Rey since 2009/10, when Sporting Mahones were beaten on penalties by Alicante in the first round.

The last team other than the now defunct Sporting Mahones to play in the Spanish Cup were CE Alaior, beaten by Sporting Mahones in 1991/92.
