Senior football has resumed in Menorca, and clubs will continue to follow the planned schedule with the end of season now pushed back until June 19.

Penya Ciutadella and Atletico Villacarlos were the first clubs to resume, their meeting on Saturday March 20 the first game on the island since January.

Penya won the game 2-1, with Xavi Marques scoring two penalties to cancel out Ignasi Ensenat’s first half opener.

Leaders CE Mercadal continued where they left off, thrashing CD Menorca 5-1 thanks to goals from Guillem Marti (2), Ruben Carreras, Eric Barber (pen) and Raul Marques.

There was a big win for UD Mahon too, who battered Atletic Ciutadella 6-0. An Axel Truyol own goal opened the scoring, with further goals coming from Martin Pasantes, Joan Coll, Migue Martinez, Javi Lacueva and Alfonso Collado.

CE Alaior stole a march on UE Sami in the race for second place, winning 1-0 in Ciutadella, while CD Migjorn continued their fine season with a 4-0 win over CE Ferreries.

Sant Lluis lost ground on those above them as they were held to a goalless draw at home by Sporting Mahon.

These games formed matchday five of the original fixture list, and is the ninth round of fixtures played to date.

This weekend, for matchday 16, the same six fixtures as last weekend are reversed.
