A clash between the teams at the top and bottom of the league did not go as expected at the weekend.

Lowly CCE Sant Lluis, with just one win in 11 games, raced in to a 3-0 lead away at leaders UE Sami after just 18 minutes. But the Ciutadellenc’s managed to rescue a point with a late comeback, scoring three goals in the final 16 minutes.

David Camps’ first, from the penalty spot, was not disputed but there was controversy over his 90th minute equaliser, which Sant Lluis claimed had come off his hand.

That result meant that even without playing, CE Ferreries climb to the top of the table which is measured on the points per game calculation during the season owing to the odd number of teams in the league.

CE Alaior made it tight in the top three, moving level on points with Ferreries, thanks to a 1-0 win over nearest rivals UD Mahon. Loren’s goal after 20 minutes was the difference, with UD Mahon’s task made harder by the red card for two bookings for Pedro Clavijo after just 28 minutes.

Surprise packages Atletico Villacarlos are in the top four after a 2-0 win over Menorca Super Cup winners Migjorn. A brace from Rodri helped them to their fifth home win of the season and seventh overall, for a team that only managed one win in the whole of last season.

There were 10 goals at the Estadio Mahones as CD Menorca thumped eight past new basement boys CF Norteno. The reigning champions have a lot of work to do if they are to challenge for promotion, but at least got their record to 50/50 with this thumping win. It was 3-0 after 18 minutes and 5-1 at half-time, with the goals coming at regular intervals in the second half to provide a final score of 8-2.

Elsewhere, Sporting Mahon made light work of beating Atletic Ciutadella 3-0.

With the top five providing a promotion change, there are eight clubs that still have a chance of making it with 10 rounds to go.
