Migjorn last team unbeaten as Sporting Mahon slip

CD Migjorn are top of the league table and are now the only remaining unbeaten team following five rounds of the Menorca League season.

Migjorn recorded an impressive 2-1 win away at the notoriously tough UD Mahon at the weekend, thanks to goals in the first half from Juanfran and Joseph.

Although Sporting Mahon were victorious, 3-0 over struggling Ciutadela CE, they had dropped points in their catch-up game in midweek, surprisingly going down 1-0 at home to Atletico Villacarlos in a game that had been postponed due to the weather earlier in the campaign.

Villacarlos completed an excellent week with a 2-1 win away at CF Norteno courtesy of a late own goal by the home side’s goalkeeper, which means after failing to win in their first three games, they now have seven points after five and are firmly mid-table.

CE Ferreries outlined their credentials with a 4-1 win away at Penya Ciutadella, with Mamadou notching a brace, and they sit second in the table, three points behind leaders Migjorn.

CD Menorca recorded their third win in four games to start the season, defeating one of the favourites CE Alaior away from home thanks to a solitary goal from Zacarias inside the first 10 minutes.

In Tercera Division, CE Mercadal returned to winning ways, beating Inter Ibiza 2-0 away from home.

They had only registered one point from their previous three games, but last week’s break proved timely, as their return to action brought three points on the road. Isaac Melia and substitute Karim scored the goals, to keep Mercadal well in the hunt for the play-off places.

Mercadal sit fifth in Tercera Division, level on points with fourth placed Llosetense.
