If you’re reading this, you’ll have seen that the website has had a bit of a refresh.
Since the site started back in 2019, it had been using the same look and so it felt like time to make information a bit clearer, highlight the best articles and make things generally more accessible.
There are more than 200 articles published on the site, ranging from in-depth historical features, to the latest news and round-ups of action on the island.
Unfortunately, last season largely passed the site by as I found it hard to find the time to keep things ticking over, something which hopefully won’t happen again.
Fixtures for the new Menorca Honor Division season, which gets underway in November, have been loaded in and results from previous years are in too. I will endeavour to try and keep them as up to date as possible.
Further work is planned on the site to hopefully bring the club pages to life, adding more information about the clubs, their history and their progress.
As always, I would love to hear from you with any comments, feedback or suggestions – email goals@menorcafootball.com or get @MenorcaFootball on socials
If you would like to help support the running costs of the site and show your support, I have set up a Ko-Fi page for you to donate: https://ko-fi.com/jdgsport. Anything would be gratefully received!
2025/26 Menorca Cup final
This weekend sees the Menorca Cup Final take place, following the traditional group stage format that starts the season.
After last weekend’s semi-finals, the final will take place between CE Ferreries and Sporting Mahon.
It is the first time these two sides have ever met in the cup final, while Sporting Mahon will be out to make it three cup final wins in a row, having taken home the trophy in 23/24 and 24/25. Sporting are of course reigning league champions too.
The game will be hosted at CE Alaior’s Los Pinos Municipal Stadium on Saturday November 1st, 6pm kick-off.
On the note of previous winners, the Roll of Honour post has been updated with a bit more information, as I look to build the history of winners of the Menorca league and cup through history. Again, if anyone has any information that could help, please get in touch. My aim is to get a full history dating back to the 1900s. The cup competition started in 1987, the first one being won by CD Migjorn.
Save the grass!
One story that was missed earlier this year was regarding the pitch at Mahones Municipal Stadium (also known as Bintaufa, pictured), the home of Sporting Mahon.
It is the only grass pitch remaining on the island, and Mahon City Council are keen to replace it with an artificial pitch.
The running costs of a grass pitch, particularly the water usage, are believed to be prohibitive, while wider maintenance of the field is also costly.
An artificial pitch could also host alternative sports, such as softball.
There has been a grass pitch at the stadium since 1986, installed by the then Sporting Mahones club who enjoyed their best years in the immediate aftermath, earning promotion in its first year and playing in Segunda Division B for six consecutive seasons.
Sporting Mahon have stated their preference for the grass pitch to remain, though the economic reality may be different.
Mahones Municipal Stadium is arguably the most equipped stadium to host football in the upper tiers with larger crowds, due to its location and space on campus. There is plenty of land around the ‘Bintaufa’ grass pitch, which has the main stand, including some hospitality features, and concrete terracing. There is the adjacent artificial pitches used by the club for training and by its wider teams.
On the subject of Bintaufa, be sure to check out this updated blog from our friends at Estadios de Espana.
Getting over for a few games
I’m currently exploring getting over to Menorca to try and do a tour of all the grounds, to take photos and to hopefully pick up as much merchandise as I can get my hands on.
My concern is going over in the winter months might be the best in terms of getting photos, though of course it would mean getting to a match or two.
Any advice, recommendations for places to stay and hire a car, would be much appreciated!
